Where is Scotty Gomez now?

As of January 2025, former NHL player Scott Gomez is serving as the head coach and general manager of the Surrey Eagles in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). He was appointed to this position in June 2024, succeeding Cam Keith. Prior to this role, Gomez was an assistant coach for the Eagles during the 2023–24 season. He has also previously served as an assistant coach for the New York Islanders from 2017 to 2019.

Gomez's coaching philosophy emphasizes strong defensive play, a principle he attributes to his time with the New Jersey Devils under general manager Lou Lamoriello. He aims to instill this "Devils way" in his players, focusing on disciplined defense leading to offensive opportunities.

In addition to his coaching duties, Gomez participated in the BCHL Alumni and Friends Game in January 2024, held in Penticton, British Columbia. The event featured several notable former players and was part of the league's All-Star Weekend festivities.

Throughout his NHL career, Gomez played for teams including the New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues, and Ottawa Senators. He retired from professional hockey in 2016.

Carlos loves dip netting and spending time with his family.

    John has lived in Alaska since May of 1983. Since 1988 he has supported all levels of hockey in the community, including Youth, High School, NCAA (UAA), ECHL (ACES) & NAHL (WOLVERINES). John loves to hunt and fish.

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    Natalie has a deep passion for volunteering and giving back to her community, particularly in giving children opportunities. For more than a decade she has worked in education and with numerous nonprofits in the Anchorage community. Natalie is devoted to making sure the foundation continues to grow and run smoothly, and dedicating herself to ensuring that individuals from all cultures and backgrounds can experience the joy of hockey.

    Tom is a Managing Partner and founder of Petrotechnical Resources of Alaska and has served on the Scotty Gomez Foundation Board as Treasurer since 2019.  Tom is an avid boater, fisherman, golfer, and hockey player.

    Trent has been a close friend of the Gomez family for more than 35 years and was an integral coach for the foundation in its early days. As the owner of Taylored Restoration, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise to every project. Trent is a bundle of energy and enthusiasm, always bringing laughter and excitement to everything he does, whether it's hunting, fishing, or staying active through fitness.
