The Scotty Gomez Foundation Hockey Association is a program of the Foundation, established in 2012.
The Boys and Girls Club supported Scotty in his youngest skating years, and the Foundation takes this support seriously. The Foundation sponsored youth hockey through a grant to the Boys and Girls Club of Anchorage for four years. When the Boys and Girls Club let go of youth hockey in 2013, the Board established an organization for non-competitive teams for disadvantaged youth.
Still in its formative years, this Anchorage-based hockey association is currently managed pro bono by Foundation President Carlos Gomez.
More than 140 youth now play hockey through the Gomez Hockey Association. Hockey gear is loaned to each child, who must contribute $500 towards the cost of their gear, ice time, and tournaments. Kids take lessons, form teams, and play. The value of this program is about $1,800 per child.
