The Scotty Gomez Foundation raises funds and makes grants to provide hockey opportunities for youth in Anchorage who may not otherwise be able to experience the game and its values and discipline.
The Foundation Board members believe that the value of hockey is far more than playing the game: it assists youth in mastering teamwork, discipline, timeliness, and the drive to succeed.
The Foundation relies entirely on the efforts of its volunteer five-member Board, and has never hired staff or contractors to manage its operations. Carlos Gomez, Scotty’s father, supports the Foundation full-time, managing fundraising and running the Foundation’s programs.
The Foundation exists to grow the pool of hockey talent and level of competition in the state of Alaska so more young hockey players can achieve their highest potential.
Fundraising has come from hockey players, their families and the business community. The Foundation has three signature fundraising events, a golf tournament with a dinner and silent auction, the Guns and Hoses charity hockey game and Pond Hockey Tournament, as well as wine tastings, tamale sales and other fundraisers throughout the year.
